Kaf Adventures creates and fosters the growth of outdoor leaders through technical skills progression and custom built outdoor experiences.

Kaf, pronounced “cough”, is an ancient Hebrew word meaning “The Power to Actualize Potential.” At Kaf Adventures, we feel that the meaning behind this word embodies our spirit and mission of educating and empowering people to get outdoors.

Becoming a Kaf Instructor

Becoming an instructor at Kaf Adventures is hard work. It requires dedication and commitment to the mission. As a small business you will often be required to put in extra time where needed and learn how to work within a system that is evolving and growing. We look for individuals who can work independently, are creative, and personable. We want the most professional and highest skilled instructors in the industry.

Kaf Adventures is a unique place to work. We value community and provide opportunity to individuals to learn and grow into the instructors they want to be. Our mentorship and shadowing opportunities help aspiring individuals grow into instructors. This will require a time or financial commitment to achieve success. We are the only small guide service that will work with your individual skill set and help you gain experience in the industry through work trade.

Kaf Adventures uses a structured scale to calculate day-rate pay for instructors. Check out our Instructor Wage Scale to calculate what you would get paid. In addition to this pay, Kaf Adventures offers some stipends to cover gas, food, and lodging.

Field Instructor, On-Call

The Field Instructor/Guide is responsible for the safety of our guests in the field. The Field Instructor is also responsible for delivering the Kaf Adventures curriculum to our community members on courses as well as managing all decision making in the field. Additionally, the Field Instructor works as a representative of Kaf culture within the greater outdoor community and the clients we serve.

Field Instructor, Full-Time Committed

The Field Instructor/Guide is responsible for the safety of our guests in the field. The Field Instructor is also responsible for delivering the Kaf Adventures curriculum to our community members on courses as well as managing all decision making in the field. Additionally, the Field Instructor works as a representative of Kaf culture within the greater outdoor community and the clients we serve.

The Full-Time Committed Field Instructor is the backbone of Kaf Adventures programming. They can be scheduled on any of our programs, in any of our course areas, and they work the most out of all of our guides. This position comes with a commitment from Kaf Adventures to provide a certain number of work days for the season.

Field Instructor, Part-Time Committed

The Field Instructor/Guide is responsible for the safety of our guests in the field. The Field Instructor is also responsible for delivering the Kaf Adventures curriculum to our community members on courses as well as managing all decision making in the field. Additionally, the Field Instructor works as a representative of Kaf culture within the greater outdoor community and the clients we serve.

The Part-Time Committed Field Instructor is our go-to instructor for our Mt Hood programs, run in partnership with the Northwest School of Survival. Ideally, this person would be based in Portland, or near Mt Hood, and would be available for any of our Mt Hood programs throughout the climbing season (April 15- July 15).
