Snoqualmie Pass Chair Peak Summit Climb

Quick Details

Chair Peak Mountaineering Routes

East Face – Summer

Chair Peak’s summer route ascends the true East Face via 4th and 5th class terrain. The crux of the route comes near the top when you will have to pull through a 5.5 bulge. Shortly after that, you’ll be standing on the summit at the top of the Alpental Valley.

Northeast Buttress – Winter

The Northeast Buttress of Chair Peak is an alpine route that will make you feel like you are in the rugged mountains of the North Cascades. Instead, you’re only an hour away from Seattle, so this becomes a great single-day outing in the mountains. The route starts at the toe of the buttress and ascends a diagonal snow ramp with a small bulge half-way through, and ends at a tree. Continue through moderate mixed terrain or snow to the bottom of the ice crux. Climb through the drip to steep snow above, and continue to the summit.

North Face – Winter

The North Face of Chair affords you the same benefits of the Northeast Buttress, but it’s slightly harder to access and the quality of the route is dependent on conditions. The fun part of the routes is the first pitch where you climb an icy corner. This route is very susceptible to conditions, and from here can be steep snow or icy mixed conditions. Either way, it’s an adventurous route on an Alpental Valley north face.
