Learn the Basics of Backpacking
This high-value, low-cost educational course is for the avid day-hiker who wants to plan their own backpacking trip. Come to the Kaf office and engage in this 8-hour extensive classroom experience on the ins and outs of what it takes to plan your own backcountry experience. Participate in interactive activities that introduce you to topographic map reading skills, route planning, camp craft, meal planning, and clothing and gear requirements. Walk away from this class with a newfound eagerness and confidence in preparing for your very own overnight backcountry outing.

This is a beginner level course. Any backcountry knowledge will enhance your experience, but no prior experience is necessary.

- Bring the gear you would use in the mountains to aid in the discussion on backpacking equipment. Ample time will be spent on the discussion surrounding necessary and unnecessary gear.
- Also, please bring a change of clothes to wear during the running portion of the day, as well as comfortable running shoes.
