Take a look at some awesome details of this unique and energizing trip!
Southern Utah is a place where nature lays bare the long chronicle of time. The geological wonders abound in Canyon Lands. Here you’ll have the opportunity to explore a majestic wilderness that is rarely visited by tourists….the White Canyon Complex.
The White Canyon Complex is a series of deep running gorges, narrow slot canyons and expansive tabletop country just north of Lake Powell. Jacob’s Chair, a large mesa that is identifiable for miles, anchors the White Canyon Complex.
During this journey, we will be hiking a particularly spectacular part of this system: Long Canyon. Long Canyon is unprotected, yet wild in character. It is the home of big horn sheep, raptors, gnarled juniper trees, red sand, sagebrush, and has a rich history of Anasazi inhabitants centuries before our time.
This multi-day trip through canyon country offers a space that rewards time spent in the backcountry, where the days slow and time seems to gently slip away. We will visit amazing canyon systems, hone route-finding skills, spend time each day with our yoga and meditation practices, gaze at impressive pictographs and enjoy the beauty of quite time for ourselves.
Don’t miss out on this unique journey and join KAF Adventures on our Canyon Lands Backpacking and Yoga Fall Retreat.
Connect with the open landscape, challenge your fitness and normal daily patterns, reflect, relax, and find new space in your heart during your time in the wilderness. This unique type of vacation will open your body and soul up to the beauty of the dessert and the beauty of the Self through the practice of yoga in nature.
Your Guide will be Mick Pearson…
Mick Pearson is a professional outdoor educator and mountain guide. He has worked with thousands of people across the nation and internationally. He is a trainer for organizations such as the National Outdoor Leadership School and Outward Bound, he holds the highest certifications with the American Mountain Guides Association, and he is the owner of KAF Adventures. Mick is a trained and certified Wilderness First Responder, a common standard for medical emergencies in the backcountry. Mick fell in love with Utah after climbing near Canyon Lands National Park. He feels the majesty of the area provides clarity, appreciation, and humility. Mick is well known for his calm and humorous demeanor, his ability to lead groups, and his contagious personality.
Your Yoga Instructor will be Emily Kasman…
Emily’s mantra is: Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu – Translating into May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.
Discovering the potential that each individual possesses inspires Emily. After taking her first yoga class in 2006, Emily began to actualize her own potential. With a former life in the corporate world for seven years, she understands what living for someone else’s demands looks and feels like. In 2009, Emily started poking holes in the box that sheltered her, her entire life. She found freedom and light from quitting a full-time Microsoft career, leaving a long term relationship, and not relying on the financial stability that came with both. Unsure of where the Universe was going to lead her, but somehow knowing that she was finally on her own road to happiness and fulfillment!
Practicing yoga outside has been part of Emily’s own adventures for years. Being able to guide students to be out of their comfort zone and grow deeply while practicing is becoming the meat and potatoes of her instruction, in and out of the studios.
