Alpine Ice Climbing
At KAF Adventures, we love ice climbing!!! We are personally excited and motivated to climb ice, and we want to take you to some of the most spectacular ice in the Northwest!!!
Created for complete beginners and intermediate climbers, our ice climbing training courses will get you outdoors to learn more about the world of ice climbing and to push your perception of comfort.

Ice climbing is one of the most amazing outdoor activities – so don’t miss out on learning from Seattle’s best professional guides and educators, and let’s climb ice together!
If you have always wanted to try it, or are experienced and need a little more instruction to comfortably climb steeper and longer routes, this course is the most cost-effective way to achieve your goals.
We are happy to welcome all skill levels, and before class, we’d like to speak with you about your individual experience and goals.
KAF can always customize private excursions and training too – we are very flexible and here to help you learn everything you need to know about how to climb ice with limited risk!
Curriculum for group courses includes:
- Thorough discussion of equipment
- Ice climbing technique
- Ice anchors, Abalakovs
- Areas to climb in the NW
- Rope handling
- Proper site selection for safety and climbing abilities
- Advanced topics (based on participant skill level): Multi-pitch belay stances, leading techniques, advanced movement techniques, and mixed climbing techniques
2-Day Outing: Curriculum involves much more climbing, practice with systems and advanced techniques. We will camp out overnight near the ice, all food and gear is provided. This is a great way to spend the weekend, get 3x’s the amount of learning and climbing in!
This course will also set you up well to experience climbs such as Mt. Hood Alpine Ice + Cooper Spur.
Cost: Varies: Minimum $150 per person per day

- (Larger groups will receive a discount based on number of participants.)
Dates:
Winter water ice single day outings: $150 : January 4th, January 21st, February 12th, February 26th
2-day outings: $350 : May 5-6th, August 4-5th, August 18-19th
Fall glacier ice single day outings: $150: August 26th, September 5th, October 6th

Once you’re confident with ice climbing, a great next step in your mountaineering training is to take KAF’s Crevasse Rescue Course. It’s never a bad idea to learn safety and rescue skills!
