9 day Alpine Climbing Course

Ahh, the next step in KAF’s Mountaineering Program – The 9 Day Alpine Climbing Course – is the premier climbing course offered in the Pacific Northwest.

After you’ve completed our Intro to Mountaineering Course and Outing, it’s time to test your knowledge during an extended stay in the wilderness. Here, you will continue to develop an incredibly strong foundation for your future life as an alpinist!!!

So if you want to confidently climb any terrain, in any weather and stay safe while doing so… this is the course for you!!!

Join KAF Adventures for and incredible nine days and experience what alpine climbing feels like in Washington State.

Push yourself physically while learning new technical mountaineering and alpine climbing skills. Spend nine days learning advanced climbing technique and mountain travel skills from Seattle’s best professional instructors.

All Students in the KAF Adventures Mountaineering School will receive exclusive access and discounts at the Outdoor Research Retail store!

We’ll explore  nearly the entire state and the amazing mountains of the North Cascades!

Climb at Index, eastern WA., the North Cascades National Park, and Mt. Baker!

Curriculum includes:

• Traditional gear placement and anchoring
• Practice lead climbing and lead belaying dynamics with traditional gear
• Experience rappelling, multi-pitch techniques, and rope management
• Snow anchor construction
• Moderate and steep snow climbing, practice with steeper crampon techniques
• Proper application of combined skills in a variety of terrain
• Glaciology and practice leading with glacier travel
• Rope team management
• Route finding and crevasse field navigation
• Mountain weather

We will also practice crevasse self-rescue and team crevasse rescue techniques, navigation in the alpine environment, learn hazard assessment including objective vs. subjective hazards, deal with inclement weather, avalanche, rock, and ice fall dangers.

You will learn alpine ecology and practice Leave No Trace ethics!

If you are not able to join us for the entire 9-days, we are offering a 5-day option.  Come and be a part of the first or last 5 days of the course dependent upon your skill set. Please call for more details.
