Mt. Shuksan

The Crown Jewel of the North Cascades! Mt. Shuksan is one of the most photographed peaks in the world, and for great reason; it is stunningly beautiful. Covered in glaciers, rock ridges, and deep forests, Shuksan is a true alpine paradise.

Mount Shuksan offers a wide range of climbs from intermediate alpine test-pieces like Fischer Chimneys, to classic glaciated adventures like the Sulphide glacier route. No route up this mountain is “easy”, as the summit pinnacle makes all whom want to stand on the summit earn the last 400′ by rock climbing.

Fischer Chimneys Route:

This is one magical climbing experience. Travel through ancient deciduous forests, camp along a pristine
alpine lake, climb 3,000′ of 4th class rock that exits directly onto a heavily crevassed glacier. If you want to put all of your skills to the test, and learn an immense amount of knowledge about complex alpine travel. This climb will not disappoint.

This climb will not only push you physically, KAF Adventures strives to empowers you to be a competent and integral part of the climbing experience. KAF Adventures will help you get there with as less risk as possible and will leave you feeling like you are a competent member of the team.

Pre Requisites: Completed KAF Adventures Intro to Mountaineering Course and Outing, or an Intermediate Climbing Outing (or equivalent experience)

Sulphide Glacier Route:

If you want to take the next step after KAF Adventures Intro to Mountaineering Course, and want to put your new
skills to the test in a more serious alpine environment, Mt. Shuksan’ s Sulphide Glacier is waiting.

Rising 5,000′ from the surrounding terrain, the Sulphide Glacier is a long and committing climb and a serious
undertaking. Heavily crevassed, and challenging glacier navigation make this a fantastic intermediate climb. With a rock climbing experience on the final summit pinnacle, Mt. Shuksan really is a well-rounded climbing experience.

Once you’ve completed KAF’s basic and intermediate foundational courses, it’s time to head into the mountains for an extended period and truly solidifies everything you’ve learned (and take part in an exciting adventure!).
