This is a 3-day course held on Mt. Baker.  It includes a mandatory pre-trip meeting held at the Kaf Office in Seattle the evening before the course start date.

All participants will be responsible for getting themselves to the pre-trip meeting. Kaf does not provide transportation for the outing, however we recognize that transportation can be challenging.  Once registered, Kaf will provide information regarding meeting times, locations and any required parking permits. If interested in carpooling, we will orchestrate a meeting place between participants.

Out-of-Town Participants:
We recommend that anyone flying in to Seattle to arrive as early as possible on the day before the trip. We also recommend you do not book a return flight until late (red-eye) on the last day of the trip, or the following morning.

Day O (Pre-Trip Meeting)
6:30pm-9pm Pre-trip meeting at our office. You will bring all personal gear and equipment to this meeting. We will go over the route and itinerary as well as go over personal and group gear to ensure everyone has what they need.

Day 1
Meet at 7am to carpool and transport to the trail head.  Hike approximately 3-5 miles/4,000’ elevation gain and set up our base camp for the trip.  Snow skills/glacier travel skills and rest as much as possible for our summit attempt

Day 2
Summit attempt.  Leave camp early in the morning ( around 2am) to head for the summit.  Depending on the route/conditions/weather and a myriad of other factors this can take anywhere from 4-12 hours. We will return to camp and stay at base camp to rest and recover from the climb.  We will be staying the night out in the wilderness to prevent any accidents from tired drivers returning to town and spend time reflecting on the experience in the most majestic places.

Day 3
Wake up, break down camp, return any rental gear and group gear to Kaf and head home!  This day can also serve as a possible “weather-option” day on the mountain.  If the weather is bad, we can wait it out and try for the summit on this day.  This is why it is important to not book a return flight home until very late or the following day.

Plan to be home by 8pm on Day 3.

The outing will take place at either

  • Mt. Baker
  • Mt. Shuksan
