Over the years we’ve talked to all of you who are interested in rentals, answering a lot of your questions. Many of you actually have the same questions so we’ve created this page to aid in your rental experience.

Please read through the list below. Hopefully you’ll find an answer to your question. If not, send us a message here. If you think a call is more important, you can reach us here.

Question: I am attending a Kaf course/experience, how dow I know what to rent and when to pick it up?
Answer: The first step is to refer to your pre-trip meeting email; the email will state what gear you need to bring with you and what gear will be provided. Any gear that you rent will be brought to you at the beginning of your course. We strongly recommend that you try on the equipment (especially mountaineering boots before placing your rental to ensure that you will have the proper fit).

Q: Where can I pick-up my order?
A: We are located at 2960 4th Ave S in Seattle’s Sodo Neighborhood. Look for the Adventure Hub sign! The rental office is on the south side of the building with an entrance by an orange loading door with the Kaf chameleon on it. Just head through the door next to it. We share the office space with two other companies, so please be respectful of their work space.

Q: When can I pick-up/drop-off my rental order?
A: The rental office is open Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. Orders that need to be picked up or dropped off outside of these times must pay an off hours fee.

Q: Kaf only charges for the days of use. What dates should I choose for my rental?
A: We do not charge you for your pick-up and drop-off day. This means that you get one day before you leave and after you return where we will not charge you for the use of the equipment. When selecting the dates you need for your rental on our calendar during our checkout process, do not include the pick-up and drop-off dates. However, this does not extend your rental by two extra days or add multiple days to your rental: For instance if you are only using the item for two days, but will be out of town with the items for a week, you will need to pay for the time that you have them as we will not be able to rent the items when they are in your possession.

Q: How do I set-up an off hours rental pick-up and/or drop-off?
A: The best thing to do is to reach out to us first; we cannot guarantee an off hours pick-up or drop-off! This service is dependent on whether we can get a staff member to come in and handle your rental (for the most part we can arrange this, but occasionally it does not work out). The next thing to do is to place the off-hours rental item in your cart for each time you need to meet us outside of our office hours. During the check-out process, note in the “pick-up/drop-off time and dates” box the date and time that you will be coming to our office. We will follow up with you about your order.

Q: What if I cannot return my order on the date that I specified?
A: Please do everything in your power to get your items back by the end of your rental period; our inventory is routinely rented out, and it is important that we are able to clean and restock items for the next customer. If you cannot make the stated rental return date, please notify us as soon as you can. A late fee will be applied: that fee is based on the cost of an extra day for the total of your rental order. For clarity, please refer to our rental agreement which can be found here.

Q: How do I know if the items I want to rent are in stock?
A: When selecting the dates of the item you want to rent, the calendar will reflect whether those items are in stock during the time you would like to rent them. Out of stock items will show a grey date box and will not allow you to rent the item. Once you have selected an item for a date period, it will also show the amount in stock for that given time period if you wish to rent more than one.
